The Diocese of Rockford has mandated that all volunteers in the diocese go through screening and training in accordance with diocesan policies. Here is an excerpt from Bishop Malloy's recent letter mandating this:
"In a continuing effort to ensure our parishes, schools and all our diocesan facilities remain safe for children, young people and vulnerable adults, the diocese has just completed an intensive review and update of our Safe Environment Program."
There are 7 steps which need to be completed to ensure the screening and training of our volunteers. We estimate it will take approximately 2 hours to complete all of the steps. Fortunately, many of our volunteers have completed some of the steps in prior years or through the school or RE. Once completed, these steps do not need to be repeated.
If you are a volunteer who is 16 or 17 years of age, please skip steps 1 and 3 below. (Please note: if you are a volunteer under the age of 16 years, no paperwork is required.)
Below is a summary of the 7 steps. All of these steps and links to documents can be found at http://www.rockforddiocese.org/documents (scroll down to 'Safe Environment Forms').
1. Screening: Running of a mandatory criminal background check by name only through the Illinois State Police and the checking of two online offender databases. Click the link, complete the form and return. The parish will cover the cost of the name background check and check the two online offender databases.
2. Training: Participate in Protecting God's Children training. This online training can be completed online in approximately 1 hour. The parish office has desktop computers available if you don't have access to a computer. Call the parish office to schedule a time to complete the training. Once completed, the certificate needs to be printed off and returned. Click the link to take you to the online training instructions. *Please note that there used to be a restriction where you could not take the training on a Mac computer or iPad. That restriction has been removed.
Also, it is highly recommended that you pdf click here (839 KB) and print off the instructions before beginning the training. It will help with the registration process.
3. Training: Complete the State of Illinois' Mandated Reporter form for volunteers. Read, sign (make certain it is for volunteering) and return.
4. Training: Complete The Diocese's Sexual Misconduct Norms. Read, sign the volunteer portion on the last page and return (note: if you enter thru diocese website, you will need the password dmalloy!).
