CAP Retreat for Teens

April 22/23, 2017
Designed to reinforce and strengthen their faith as they become adults in the Catholic Church, the CAP (Catholic and Proud) Weekend provides teens in high school an opportunity to determine how faith plays a role in their lives. Led by an amazing team of high school youth with the support of adult parishioners, it helps teens learn to explore and defend their beliefs. This weekend is also a fun, faith-filled way for the Catholic youth of the parish to create new friendships and reinforce old ones. Tons of laughs, delicious food, friends old and new … all making faith FUN! You won’t regret sending your teen! Trust us, they need this - and they’ll thank you for it!! For more information, or to register, contact Tammy Jauch at 630-440-1679 or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
Even if you don't know a teen who could attend, you can still help teens deepen their faith! Without the help of our parish families, we could not bring this experience to our youth completely free of charge. If interested, please consider helping in one of the following ways:

Prayers for the team & attendees!!

Fasting & Abstinence During Lent

Penitential Disciplines of Lent

"The Christian faithful, during Lent, are clearly conscious of the need to turn the mind towards those realities which really count, which require Gospel commitment and integrity of life which, through self denial of those things which are superfluous, are translated into good works and solidarity with the poor and needy" (Directory on Popular Piety and the Liturgy, #125).

In addition to choosing their own penitential practices, Catholics are also asked to observe the practices of fast and abstinence during the 40 days of Lent. The Lenten Fast and Abstinence Regulations are as follows:

1. Everyone 14 years of age or over is bound to abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday and all the Friday of Lent.

2. Everyone 18 years of age and under 59 years of age is bound to fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. (The obligation of fasting ceases with the celebration of one's 59th birthday.)

3. Fasting on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday means eating only one full, meatless meal. Two other smaller, meatless meals, sufficient to maintain strength, may be taken according to each one's needs, but together they should not equal another full meal. Eating between meals is not permitted on these two, days, but liquids, including milk and fruit juices are allowed. When health or ability to work would be seriously affected, the law does not oblige.

4. Catholics should not lightly excuse themselves from these prescribed minimal penitential practices.

Shroud of Turin Exhibit

SS. Peter & Paul Church is very excited to be hosting The Man of the Shroud Exhibit in our gathering space from Feb. 15 – 20. The shroud is believed by many to be the burial cloth of Jesus. Click here for more information.

We would like to have a volunteer at the exhibit during these times to make certain everything is running smoothly. This might include making certain the DVD is running, the donation boxed is being manned and no mishaps occur (e.g. a panel falls down). The sign up is for one-hour time slots but volunteers are encouraged to sign up for consecutive time slots if possible. No training is required and an instruction sheet will be left at the exhibit. You will receive a reminder email 2 days before your scheduled time. Thank you in advance for your time and please pass this on people in your ministries/groups who may want to volunteer. Subscribe to The Observer

The Observer is the official newspaper of the Catholic Diocese of Rockford. It is a weekly publication that contains articles written by Bishop David Malloy and Pope Francis, as well as articles written by the staff about what is happening in our diocese. It also has articles about world events from a Catholic perspective and articles about our faith.

The Observer would like at least half of our parish families to subscribe to the paper. If we do not have half of our families subscribe, our parish has to make up the difference in a dollar amount. This year, our parish had to pay more than $24,000 to the Observer. For those of you who subscribe, thank you. For those of you who do not, please consider it. The Observer is available in print and online, and a subscription is only $28 per year ($2.33 per month). Subscription forms are available on the table in the narthex, or click here to subscribe.
