Knights of Columbus Collecting 40 Cans

Knights of Columbus Council 12824 is again conducting a charity program that will unite the traditional Lenten almsgiving with the nutritional needs of the poor families in our parish area.

The idea is simple, but we require your help. A one-can-a-day or cash donation during Lent will help us to stock the Cary Grove Food Pantry and assist needy families. A collection bin will be located in the gathering space from Ash Wednesday, (March 6) through Palm Sunday (April 14).

This program is inspired by Christ’s 40 days of fasting in the desert. Please join us in a program that promises to enrich the lives of the donors  and recipients alike.

Blessing of Throats Weekend Masses Feb. 2/3

St. Blaise and the Blessing of Throats

(at all Masses the weekend of February 2 & 3)

Two candles crossed and placed against the throat is what many of us remember from childhood. Who was the saint that we remember each year?

Saint Blaise was the bishop of Sebastea and a doctor. The first known record of the saint's life indicates that St. Blaise was known for helping patients suffering from objects stuck in their throat.

Saint Blaise is believed to begin as a healer then, eventually, became a "physician of souls." People often turned to Saint Blaise for healing miracles.

St. Peregrine Ministry for January

Please join us on January 19 at 8:45am in the church for the St. Peregrine Prayer Service.

St. Peregrine is the patron saint for cancer patients. He was miraculously healed of cancer after praying fervently to an image of the
Crucified Christ. The St Peregrine Prayer Service meets monthly on the 3rd Saturday of the month.
St. Peregrine, pray for us.

Christmas Wafers (Oplatki)

Christmas Wafers
The Christmas customs that connect people are important. Polish Catholics have a beautiful custom of the Christmas Wafer or Oplatki. At the Christmas Eve dinner, a wafer is placed under each person’s plate. In place of “grace” each person breaks a piece off of their wafer and gives it to another person. As they do this, they make a special wish or say a prayer for that person. This goes on until every person has greeted every other person at the meal. This can be adapted to Christmas Day or even New Year’s Day. A flat bread can be used as the customary Christmas Wafer. Oplatki packets will be available for $1.00 after Mass the weekends of December 1/2, 8/9 and 15/16 (or as long as supplies last).
